The Impact of Higher Costs to Foreign Students in the UK

The United Kingdom has realized that several economic opportunities and overall national income is being reduced due to the declining volume of international students coming to study in the country. In the past few years, the country experienced a booming number of foreign students enrolling at its universities. But lately, authorities have identified that this figure fast declining.

Calculations reveal that every three foreign students enrolled at British universities in the country contribute to cover the salary of a full-time job to the economy. That means that the higher the number of such students, the more income could be generated by the government, leading to higher margins and revenues.

Authorities point out that international students pay full tuition and other academic fees while local students are almost always subsidized by the government, especially in public universities. The money being infused by foreign students is giving universities more funds, so they can finance the various projects and researches they have. A portion of foreign students’ tuition fees directly goes to the UK government.

Although recently, fewer and fewer foreign students are enrolling at British academic institutions. That is because tuition fees are rising uncontrollably. Foreign students are starting to become conscious about their money because financial situations are also rigid in their homelands. Times are really getting hard and more people are suffering money insufficiencies.

Thus, the UK now feels the impact of fewer foreign students. Its public universities’ funds are declining and the government is starting to infuse more capital and money into universities so that researches and important studies can be funded. On top of this, foreign students also spend allowances, making consumer sales higher in their host country. Nevertheless if these students diminish the consumer economy will be greatly affected.
